gon article louie bartenfield

Georgia Outdoor News (GON) did a feature article on me in the June 2013 issue.

In this article, I talk about the "System" of fishing: the rod, the reel, the line, the lure, the location...It is all parts that come together to produce big fish consistently.

Don Baldwin did a great job on the article and I'm sure you'll enjoy reading it.

joe thomas fishing with carters lake guide service louie bartenfield

Joe Thomas received some great feedback from the spinnerbait show we did (July 2011) and the float-n-fly show we did (December 2012), and so he came back again this year to do a topwater show catching monster spots. Typically, May is a great time to catch some big ones. During this time, spots are post-spawn, transitioning to summer patterns, and hungry. Typically, it a great time to get a big one on topwater lures.

Typically.

This year was not typical. We've had unseasonably late cold weather, and lots and lots of rain. I've never seen Carter's Lake so flooded. We have literally been launching the boat in the parking lot! Fish are scattered, and getting a bit at all was tough in the days prior to Joe's visit.

Joe's response: "I have faith in you, Louie. You'll figure it out."

---not much comfort knowing all the planning and coordination it takes to put together a shoot. And sure enough, we struggled to get a bite. But we kept at it, kept exploring, kept making changes, and late on the 2nd morning, we got on 'em, big time. To me, figuring out a big bite against the odds is what every serious angler tries to do, and it is going to make for a great show. Look for it to air sometime in July on the Outdoor Channel.

This was the first show that we've held a Facebook giveaway for a seat on the camera boat. Alan Osborne was our winner, and he took some great pics. You can see them here. Please like our Facebook page for more giveaways and announcements.

hook n look carters strike

Word is getting around about our giant Carter’s Lake spots, and I’ve recently completed my 2nd show with Kim and Danny Stricker of Hook n’ Look TV, this time, with me as the guest-host. It is rare that Hook n' Look has a guest host that isn't a show sponsor, and I am truly honored that they chose me for the shoot.HnL logo

Kim and Danny came down all the way from Michigan for this show, and told me prior to the shoot that they only wanted to use one lure: the Strike King Sexy Dawg. This top-water gem certainly didn’t disappoint, and we got bites at every stop. This is a brand-new lure from Strike King, and I only had a few weeks to practice with it before the show ---no matter really. Just walk it and get bit!!!

Nobody else on TV does a show quite like Kim. If you’ve never seen it, they show traditional fishing from the boat, but then they get in the water and show what is going on beneath the surface. The underwater segment of their show is really, really interesting, and the shots we got of our big Carter’s Lake spots were really cool!!! The show will air this summer on the Outdoor Channel. I will make an announcement as soon as I get an air date.

You can see the behind-the-scenes pictures in my gallery.

Joe Thomas and his crew had a very successful shoot with me in the spring of 2010, but we missed the really big spot that we were looking for. In the show, you see us loose a big one at the boat, and never followed up with the monster spot that Carter's is known for.

December being the best time of year to get a monster spot, we scheduled another shoot to get that big one we missed. The show was also planned to feature the float-n-fly technique---a very unusual way to catch big bass.

As you can see by the picture, Joe got his fish, and he did so on the float-n-fly. Joe has been a professional angler for over 30 years, and this was his all-time best spotted bass.

The show aired in the summer of 2012 and you can still catch re-runs now and again.

Cletus-Jump Final

Clint Buice, aka "Cletus T." has been shooting episodes of his new fishing show called Country Fried Cletus, and ya'll, if you haven't seen his show, please check it out. --it is VERY entertaining!

 Cletus is a hoot!

The show is being producded by the guys over at Sportsman Living and they are really doing a great job with the show.

Recently, they met up with me on Carter's to shoot an episode of us getting on some good spots. We got a monster hybrid in the mix as well. --->

Please visit the Sportsman Living web site and preview the shows. This web site is quickly becoming one of my favorites on the web---PACKED with all kinds of good stuff.

HnL LogoNow airing on the Outdoor Channel, Hook n' Look with Kim Stricker recently spent three days on one of my alternate lakes in Tennessee: Parksville Lake on the Ocoee River. If you've never seen Kim's show, its really pretty good. He gets in the water with the fish and shows you where they are, how they behave, and gives you a perspective on fishing that few other shows capture.Strickers Parksville Lake

Kim was there on the shoot with Boat US, and we got some incredible footage of spotted bass doing....well, doing what spotted bass do. Chasing each other, eating, and being mean!

You guys really don't want to miss this show, I'm sure its going to be great. The footage I previewed on the water when the guys were filming was simply awesome, and will give you a taste of just how different spots are from largemouth and smallmouth.

mastheadInterview with host Brad Myers broadcast on 92.5FM The Bear. We talked about Georgia fisheries managment legislation that I have proposed and for which I am activly campaigning to establish and maintain a creel limit for large spotted bass on select lakes in Georgia.

The new legistlation would limit the number of bass over a specified length (proposed 18") to one specimen. The intent of the new legislation is to allow Georgia's big spotted bass to grow in numbers and size on some lakes, such as Carter's Lake, to promote this wonderful fish.

Joe Thomas Header1I co-hosted an episode of Stihl's Reel in the Outdoors with Joe Thomas in the spring of 2011, and the show aired on the Outdoor Channel that July. Although we didn't get the monster spot we wanted, it was an EXCELLENT show and we boated several really nice fish.

If you would like an official DVD copy from The Outdoor Channel of this episode, please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I'll send you one.
