Fishing Report December week 2
Water temp: 56
Clarity: 8ft+ viz
Lake Level: 7ft below
The bite has been steady. I've ran a combo of trips lately between livebait and artificial trips.
On my artificial trips the most consistent bite is still Spotsticker Jigheads tipped w/ Big Bite soft plastics fished in 15-30ft deep. I've also had a few big fish this week fishing new Spotsticker hand-tied jigs tipped w/ Big Bite finesse twin tails in 30-40ft around submerged wood/timber. Not many bites on the jig but the fish we've caught have been big. There is still a few fish to be caught in ditch's on underspins as well but that bite has slowed a bit. As we move into January fish will continue to spread out in all depth zones, there's always some really big fish caught shallow when our water drop below 55 especially early morning. I've already had some decent days throwin the Fn'F using 12ft leaders w/ Red Rooster Carters Special fly's. Daniel and Doug from Greenville, SC who came all the way to learn the Fn'F technique on Saturday and we grind out a very good catch.
Love seeing the long rods bowed over :)
And here's Doug with a big Spot on the fly.
The Stripers continue to be non-existent. I've boated 1 over the past 2 weeks.... 1 !!! We did lose a big Striper on yesterdays trip after a big run, we hooked her on a 7 inch Trout down-lined in 70+fow. It's my belief that most of the Stripers in the lake have followed Alewife extremely deep and for the most part are impossible to catch.
I'M ALREADY BOOKING DAYS IN MIDDLE JANUARY. IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN A TROPHY SPOTTED BASS WINTER IS A GREAT TIME TO CATCH A BIG FISH. LIVEBAIT OFFERS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE LESS EXPERIENCED ANGLERS AND KIDS TO GET IN ON THE FUN. DROP ME A LINE FOR AVAILABILITY.
Merry Christmas to everyone and good luck out there. Check photo galleries for more pics from the week.
