Carters Lake Guide Service Fishing Videos

Check back often as I'm always uploading new content...

Big Striper on 6lb line? --You Bet!

I love it when you're out-gunned and win the battle. Check out this big striper we caught while fishing for spots.

Big Spot Caught on Float-n-FLy

Spot was about 4.5 lbs. If you've never done this type of fishing, you should book a trip in December or January and give it a try. It is a hoot!

Winter Fishing HUGE Spotted Bass

It seems every time we do one of these, it gets better. In this video, I talk about a killer technique that you can use in the winter when fish migrate into pockets and creek channels: finesse fishing in DEEP water. Check it out.

Hook n' Look Show Teaser

Here is the teaser video that Kim Stricker sent us on the footage we shot earlier this year. This show will be the debut show for the 2013 season, and is scheduled to air for the first time on January 5th on the Outdoor Channel.

We had 20+ blow ups caught on film, so we can't wait to see the show!!!

St.Croix RAGE rods for Fall Fishing

Here is a video I did to talk about fall fishing with the highly versatile St. Croix RAGE rods.

Summer Fun on the Dropshot

Late summer is a great time for dropshot. Here is a recent video of some of my clients having fun with our big Caters Lake fish.

Brent and His Son, Blake

Man, this was fun! My good bud, and long time client Brent, brought his son Blake out for a day on Carters. They were catching so many on their own, I pulled out the gadget and started filming. Check it out.

July 4th Dropshot Action Part I

My buddy Chris Hight and I took some time off on July 4th to experiment with some BigBite Shaking Squirrels on deep offshore brush. Check it out.

July 4th Dropshot Action Part II

Here are several clips of Chris getting on some big Carter's Lake spots. Enjoy.

Big January Flathead

This big flathead cat ate a down-lined trout in over 60 feet. You can see him blow a huge air bubble as he gets close to the boat.

Sonar Sight-Fishing with Drop Shot

This video was also shot 02/03/10. Matt w/ Pro Angler Radio and I were showing what the drop shot looks like on the sonar when this spot showed up under our bait just off the bottom in 35ft of water. Not a large fish but keeper size fish are at a premium in late winter when fishing is tough.

Pre-Spawn Fish-Head Spin

This video was shot 04/15/10. The fish was caught around 1:00PM, water temp was 70 and lake level +5ft over pool. My partner Bill Payne and I were doing a shoot w/ Matt Driver of Pro Angler Radio. We were in the back 1/4 of a major creek arm and as we were idling in we started marking tons of bait/fish suspended 10-15ft just up on the break-line of the 25ft deep creek channel. Even in the middle of spring on spotted bass lakes when you see this, get the fish head out! Normal springtime rules do not apply when spotted bass fishing, contrary to popular opinion spots are often very late spawners and as the water warms they have one thing on their mind..... Shad.

1/2 Fish Head Spin w/ Big Bite Jerk Shad, 12-15lb Fluro and I like to throw the Fish Head Spin on a glass or composite rod . Something like a 7ft Heavy Cranking Rod. Lots of "bumps" before hook-up so I like a rod with more give. It's improved my hook up ratio. Check out St Croix's heavy glass series cranking rod, it's a great fit for this technique.

Pre-Spawn Vartiety

This video was also shot 04/15/10, same day as the last video featuring the Fish Head Spin. Spring time always offers a wide variety of patterns in virtually every water column. In this video we show a few different patterns that was going on the same day. We start the morning fishing windy main-lake structure with big spinnerbaits and scroungers. Then when the sun got high we switched gears and used Pop-R's and Prop Baits around shallow wood and flooded bushes. We also caught numerous fish not featured on jig head squirrel tail worms, drop shots, and a big 5.02 spot under an open water shad school with the 1/2 Fish Head Spin.

If you're interested in catching the meanest bass that swims, drop me a line. I'd love to take you out for a day of spotted bass fishing.

Deflating a Deep-Caught Bass

At any given time throughout the summer or winter after a tournament weigh in, if you were to put your boat back in the water chances are you would see multiple fish floating belly up around the release area. The reason for this is due to the expansion of their swim bladder. IF A FISH IS RELEASED WITH AN EXPANDED SWIM BLADDER AND LEFT UNATTENDED TO, THE FISH IS DESTINED TO DIE. Most of the time this is caused by catching a fish from 20+ft depths, however I've seen swim bladder expansion in shallow lakes like Weiss and Neely Henry in Alabama where the water reaches mid to upper 90's and the oxygen levels are poor. Our fisheries are under tremendous pressure so we need to take extra precautions to take care of our fish and respect our fisheries. In my opinion this is the quickest, safest method to "fizz" (manually deflate air bladder) a fish with minimal risk to the fish. I've used this method for over 6 years and have fizzed thousands of both bass and stripers. Everyone can do this, it's very inexpensive and takes less than a minute. The needle and syringe can be bought at any drug store for just a few bucks.

Big Spotted Bass on Drop Shot

This video was shot December the 8th during our first major major cold front of the cold season. The high that day was 34 and wind chill of 22 degrees w/ high wind. The Spot was caught on a Red Rooster Custom Drop Shot Fly in "Carters Special" on a 7ft Medium Lite St Croix Avid Rod w/ 5lb Sunline 100% Fluro. I love following shad back in creeks and ditches looking for what I call "loner" spots suspended in open water following bait. Most of the time these fish are traveling alone or with one or two other big spots, they are harder to find but when you do run across them typically they are aggressive and easy to catch. January and February are my favorite cold weather months to target large loner fish w/ my sonar. The Humminbird 3D Sonar is the best Sonar I've ever used for this type of fishing. If you would like to learn where and how to target large spotted bass using you electronics, drop me a line and lets get out on the water soon !!! ~LB

Drop Shot Action

Check out this awesome sonar footage we recorded while drop shotting a deep school of spotted bass off a point near the Dam. If you watch close you will be able to see fish on the screen moving toward my bait numerous times. This showcases the crystal clear picture produced by the Humminbird 1197 and New 3D Sonar. Switching to Humminbird has improved my capabilities of locating and catching more open water spotted bass. Humminbird is without a doubt the clearest most accurate sonar I have ever used. For those interested here are my basic "Sonar" settings for the unit used above. Unit was set on Max Mode with Surface Clutter: 7 Sensitivity: 12 and Chart Speed: 2

February Fishing, Video 1

This video was shot February 26th, 2011 by a client with his I-Phone during our trip. We had started our morning fishing Jig Head Worms and Football Jigs around shallow flats in the river boating some nice chuncky Spots. My clients had to leave around 1:30pm so at 12:00 we decided to run down lake and focus our last hour fishing a school of big spots I'd been on for a few weeks. This particular school of fish had been in the area for nearly a month, moving to different flats in the area each day. It took us about 20mins to locate the school but when we did we missed our first two bites then boated 3 straight 4lb+ quality Spots !!! Great way to end the day. Special thanks to Jabo, Thad, and Tyler for hiring Carters Lake Guide Service.

February Fishing, Video 2

Here is video number 2 of our trip on 02.26.11, another big Spot. Watch and listen as the fish come's up to the boat and rips off 20ft of drag as it surge's toward the bottom. This is why I love Spotted Bass, they never give up and will make runs that will for a moment, make you wonder if it is indeed a freshwater fish you are fighting !!! Thanks again guys for hiring my services. ~LB

Big Striper on 8lb Sunline

This video was shot in early February 2011. Adam Broughton (biggeorgiaspots.com) and I were out shooting some sonar video. We were jigging spoons, drop shots, and grubs vertical around giant schools of Alewife that were 50-100ft of water in ditches. I dropped in to a small school of fish and nearly 10mins later here's what I landed.

Tackle: 7ft Medium St Croix Avid Rod, 8lb Sunline 100% Fluro, 2500 Team Daiwa Sol Reel. Adam was on the camera and edited this down to what you see. Great Job AD
